The New Man - Born of God

2Ti 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We Put On The new Man

Thank God there is a New Man.  The New Man is not a reformed old man, but a new creation, created by God, birthed by the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:23-24 tells us to be renewed in the spirit of your mind and to put on the New Man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Notice that this portion of scripture is talking to born-again Christians. God is telling Christians to put on the New Man which refers to not only to our new identity but new behavior that reflects our new identity.

Putting on the new man is an important truth for the Christian. Christians can think that if they were really Christians they wouldn't have to deal with some of the things they deal with. Look at the list that Paul gives to Christians: lying, anger, stealing, giving in to the Devil, corrupt communication, grieve not the Holy Spirit, bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil speaking, all malice and be kind and tenderhearted to one another and forgive one another. Paul tells born-again Christians to stop doing these things and to start behaving like the people they really are.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NKJV)22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

2Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The new man is created after God in righteousness and true holiness. If you are a born-again Christian then you are a New Creation of God. To be created after God means "down from" or "according to". As a born-again Christian you are no longer a Natural Man but a New Man with your new identity in the resurrected Christ. Not only do you have a new identity but you have a new nature - one of righteousness and true holiness!! 2 Peter 1:2-3 tells us that we are partakers (partners, associates) with the Divine Nature.

2 Peter 1:2-4 (NKJV)2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

All Creation Is Watching

I know what you are thinking-If I have a new nature then why do I act the way I act? Why do I struggle in so many areas of life? A very good question. The answer is this- You are not in heaven yet. God has given you a life to live in the context of struggle. On earth we prove God to be more powerful than evil. Our life on earth is to walk out the victories of Christ over the devil and his lies. Our victory over darkness proves God's wisdom in redeeming a people through Christ. All creation is watching!

Salvation Is Proved In Battle

Jesus has won a very great victory for you. He has defeated sin, defeated the devil, and defeated the world for you. Your job as a Christian is to walk out the victories of Jesus Christ, over evil, using the weapons He gives. God could have translated you directly into heaven the very second you were born-again. But instead He chose to leave you in this demon possessed, sin infected world.

And in addition, He chose to leave you in a body that is opposed to God, and He chose to leave you with a mind that is opposed to God. He then tells us to manage our bodies and renew our minds to serve Him. This brings Him honor and glory-when we, His people, using His weapons, defeat darkness in our own body and mind!! We show the principalities and powers in heavenly places the great wisdom of God in His eternal purposes in Christ Jesus. God has dealt with evil through Christ Jesus and we, His people, show the evidence of Gods victory over evil through our victory over evil! We make God look good!! And this is our supreme and high calling-to bring God glory.

The identity of the new man lies in the resurrected Christ.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Gospel Results In a New Nature

Our sin is atoned for by our union with Jesus Christ in His death and burial. His death is the penalty mandated by law for sin. His burial is the proof of His death. Because we are joined to Christ in His death and burial, God counts me as having died and also buried, therefore satisfying the just penalty of death for sin. The soul that sinneth it shall die. Ezekiel 18:4 Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. Hebrews 9:24

But I need more than death and burial-I need to live! Not only have I died in Him, but I am joined to Him in His resurrection. The above portion of scripture, Romans 6, tells me (verse 5,7,11) that I am joined to Christ in His resurrection! I have been given new life through the resurrection of Christ. Verse 11 tells me - just as Christ is dead to sin (through death and burial) I am also dead to sin and just as Christ has risen from the dead and is now alive to God (sin having been dealt with) I have also risen from the dead and am alive to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Resurrection Is proof of My New Identity

Now for an important principle-The resurrection of Jesus Christ is proof that I can live an overcoming Christian life. I am a new creation. I am now a human being with the Spirit of Christ in me. I am joined to the resurrected Christ and share in His victory over sin. This is Gods answer and wisdom to our new life on earth. I literally have the resurrection power of Jesus Christ in me. The above scripture tells me to reckon it so, count that it is true! My title deed to the new man is the resurrected Christ. Sin has been defeated, guilt is removed for I am no longer guilty. The penalty is paid, the sentence is served, and God is satisfied. His wrath is fulfilled, and I am free to live unto God through the life and power of the resurrected Christ!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1Peter 1:3

Armor of God is a Bible study that teaches the Christian how to put on the new man by using the weapons of God, listed in Ephesians 6:10-18, and applying them at heart level - the thoughts, emotions, desires, priorities, ambitions are brought into agreement with God and the lies of darkness that bind us are rejected!

TIT 3:3-7 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

2COr 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

JAMES 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

1JN 3:8-10 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

EPH 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

      EPH 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

COL 3:1-6 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

EZE 36:25-27 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Heb 10:16-23 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
