Warfare Prayer is for those who find themselves in a daily battle with habits, thoughts, emotions, and/or behavior that prevents them from being the person Christ has called them to be. The Warfare Prayer is a starting point for our thinking. We speak the Word of God over our lives because it is the Sword of the Spirit and Darkness cannot stand against it. We are in a battle with the Devil and his chief weapon is the lie. He, Satan, has the ability to speak to our mind, our emotions, and our imagination. We can find our mind daily filled with unholy and unclean thinking. We can be tormented as we remember events and people from our past; the cross has purchased sanctification for our memory and if we do not know how to control our memory it can provide darkness with an emotional foothold. Our memories, emotions, thoughts, and our imaginations form an emotional/spiritual complex that, if we allow, Darkness can manipulate and exploit for their unholy purposes. Darkness is relentless, and if we do not have an ongoing source of strength, we can become emotionally and spiritually fatigued by the ongoing battle within our mind. The Warfare Prayer is but the first step in the process of taking back our mind and our spiritual health. We are a New Creation in Christ Jesus and we need to strengthen our faith by speaking the Word of God to our mind, and incidentally, to our emotions. The words we speak are themselves powerful weapons against darkness for we are saying what God says. Darkness has no inherent right to control or manipulate our thinking; the only power they have is what we give them. They cannot overcome the Power of God, i.e., what God has said, for they have been defeated. Jesus proved to all creation that He was God, He proved He was more powerful than Satan, and He proved His Word to be true. His resurrection openly and definitively proved His absolute victory over Satan, and in addition, His resurrection secured the absolute victory of His purchased possession over all the power of Darkness.
The Warfare Prayer helps us renew our mind by giving structure and direction to our thinking. We cannot allow our thoughts to wander, we cannot allow our heart to want any pleasure, and we cannot allow our emotions to feel any feeling. We must be disciplined intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally by the Word of God. By saying what is true we bathe our mind in the truths of God's Word which helps us recognize and resist the lie when it comes. The Word of God is the ground upon which we stand, and when spoken over our lives, becomes a source of strength, healing, and deliverance. By saying what the Lord says about our new identity in Christ we plant the Word of God in the soil of our heart; through faith we come into agreement with Him. As we speak truth over our lives, our minds are renewed and we are daily strengthened to recognize and resist the powers of Darkness.
Darkness, if confronted with Scripture, will submit to the redemptive truths of the Gospel, they have no choice, for the victory is already won and they have lost. Every demon and every devil must submit to the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, i.e., the atoning, justifying work purchased for His people. They cannot stop the Christian from being joined to and sanctified by Christ; Darkness cannot stop the Christian from putting on the New Man who, after God, is created in righteousness and true holiness. Jesus Christ personally secures the sanctification of every Christian. Our part is to possess, through faith, and by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, the sanctifying work of Christ over every part of our life: our decisions, choices, behaviors, attitudes, emotions, desires, and our imaginations. Our sanctification proves Jesus to be greater than Satan, the blood to be more powerful than sin, and that salvation is indeed real. The Warfare Prayer is a summary of scriptural truths, a daily reminder of what God says, remembering our Enemy, daily, devises lying strategies to manipulate and cloud what is real and true.
