Put On The Full Armor of God

Belt of Truth

Eph 6:14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

We are told to put on Truth. The Scriptures never tell us to look inwardly for Truth, but to look upward, for God alone is the Author and Source of Truth. And since He the Creator of everything, He is the only one qualified to tell us what is true.

Our heart is deceitful, and if left to itself, will not lead us into Truth, but will lead us away from Truth. We learn what is true by looking to the Word of God. Proverbs 28:25 informs us that the person who trusts in his own heart is a fool.

Prov. 28:26
He that trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he that walks wisely shall be delivered.

We Must Fight For Truth

Psa. 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light, it giveth understanding to the simple.

One would think, as born-again Christians, we would not have to be told to put on truth, that it would automatically find residence within our heart. But this is not the case. Nothing in the Christian's life is automatic, or easy, especially truth. We have to consciously and willfully give ourselves to the Word of God that we might know the truth, and then by faith, act on truth.

The Lord tells us that without truth we will not be able to stand or withstand the Dark opposition to Christ. Even though the opposition is directed primarily at Christ, as followers of Christ we also suffer because of this opposition. Our Enemy is relentless and he is powerful; powerful for he appeals to our natural desires and natural appetites. For example, we are always tempted to direct our own lives. The wise person submits his/her thoughts and intentions to the Word of God. He understands the Word to be a light, a discerner of his heart condition. Apart from the truth of God's Word, we lack the ability or insight to examine the hidden motivations of our heart.

Hebrews 4:12
For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

There is a part of us that is very susceptible or vulnerable to the message of Darkness; it is that part of us that wants. Our wanting is always on, and always open to the lies of the Devil. Truth, if submitted to, keeps us from falling to the deceptive charms of Darkness. Thank the Lord that the Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes, for without His help we would never see the danger of choosing our own way. Our autonomous and selfish heart would simply define it's version of truth and our mind and emotions would agree.

We Must Commit To Truth

John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Psa. 12:6-7
The words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

We are told to pursue truth for we do not always know what is true. We commit ourselves to truth; having your loins girt about with truth" is the description Ephesians 6:14 uses. Truth is of no value unless it dwells within our heart and rules over our decisions.

We conform our heart, i.e., thoughts, emotions, ambitions, desires, imagination, and priorities, to the truth of God's Word. We, joyfully and humbly, allow our heart to be examined by Scripture, and when necessary, we repent and ask God for the spiritual strength to make inward changes. This process of submitting to the Word of God becomes a way of life for us.

God, by His Word, shines His light on our heart. His Word is our daily bread and as we feed on His Word we are inwardly strengthened to defeat the lies and strategies of darkness. If we allow truth to shape our thinkng it will free us from emotional and spiritual bondage. The Scripture calls this process the renewing of our mind

Truth is an attribute of God. It is His Nature and He is the "first cause" of truth. Truth proceeds from Him and the scripture says "truth goes before Him".

If we are going to relate to God then we have to decide to live by truth. God cannot relate to a person who insists on living their own way.

If you are a born-again Christian then there is more right with you than wrong with you!
