What The Bible Says

Anger

Heb 12:1-2
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author? and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We are told we have sins that easily entrap or ensnare us, and that each of us are vulnerable to particular sins. We are told in order to run the race set before us we have to lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entraps us.

Some sins have the ability to surround or ambush us, they become a stronghold that causes us to stumble. One attitude or sin that hinders many is the sin of anger. We will look to the Scriptures and learn about the person who will not control their anger.

A quick tempered person makes foolish decisions.
Prov 14:17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

An angry man is confident in his foolish raging.
Prov 14:16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

An angry man suffers trouble but he does not learn from his troubles.
Prov 19:19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again. (KJV)
Prov 19:19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again. (NIV)

An angry person is self-inflated and acts with overwhelming pride!
Prov 21:24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath. (KJV)
Prov 21:24 The proud and arrogant man, Mocker is his name; he behaves with overweening(insolent) pride. (NIV)

Anger will bring judgment to our lives.
Matt 5:21-22 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca?, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (KJV)

Matt 5:21-22 You have heard that people were told in the past, ?Do not commit murder; anyone who does will be brought to trial. 22)But now I tell you: whoever is angry with his brother will be brought to trial, whoever calls his brother "You good-for-nothing"? will be brought before the Council, and whoever calls his brother a worthless fool will be in danger of going to the fire of hell. (TEV)

A quick temper is a disqualification for leadership.
7) For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8) But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9) Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

A man that controls his anger makes good decisions but an angry man exalts folly.
Prov 14:29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty?? of spirit exalteth folly.

Avoid angry people, their ways will be a snare (trap) to your soul.
Prov 22:24-25 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

A companion of fools will be destroyed.
Prov 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

An angry person causes arguments and his life is filled with sins.
Prov 29:22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Prov 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

It is better to have self-control than great accomplishments.
Prov 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

God says to put it all away!
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Bitterness = hatred, chronic anger
Wrath = boiling passion
Anger = inward agitation
Clamor = outcry, crying, complaining
Evil speaking = speech that injures
Malice = ill will

Hatred is the spirit of murder!
1John 3:14-16We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Angry people will not repent of their sins!
Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Rev 16:8-11 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched? with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. 10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Scripture

Rev 21:6-8 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Rev 21:22-27
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev 22:11-15
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
